Shiawassee United Way is a local, volunteer based organization. We are governed by a local volunteer board of directors made up of corporate and community leaders from across Shiawassee County.

In January, 2003, United Way leaders from across the nation gathered and overwhelmingly approved new, upgrades accountability standards. These standards raise the bar for every local United Way, and have put us in a leadership position nationally on the issue of transparency and accountability.

Specifically, the comprehensive upgrades to the standards make United Way reporting practices more consistent across the country. This consistency in reporting helps investors and the public to more clearly understand how United Ways are investing contributor dollars wisely and efficiently. Shiawassee United Way supports the upgraded standards and have fully complied with them for the past three years.
