Communication

Goal Statement ~ Educate and inform the community on the role Shiawassee United Way plays in impacting the needs of our residents.

Objectives:
• Increase the size and activities of the communications committee.
• Continue to educate Shiawassee County about the community impact funding model.
• Expand youth involvement in and education of Shiawassee United Way through school-based or school-initiated programs.
• Seek localized publicity for Shiawassee United Way funded programs.
• Mobilize volunteers to become liaisons between Shiawassee United Way and their local communities.
• Demonstrate and communicate how giving through Shiawassee United Way provides increased value for charitable investments in the community.
• Manage the United Way Brand to maintain a prominent stature and reputation.


Community Investments

Goal Statement ~ Develop strategies that will achieve measurable and lasting change in community conditions, mobilize necessary resources and put them to work to produce positive results and improve lives.

Objectives:
• Maintain and encourage strong relationships with community partners to support the community impact structure.
• Conduct annual surveys to determine community needs.
• Review the community impact structure to maintain effectiveness.
• Encourage collaboration and unduplicated efforts to address community issues, and encourage leveraging resources when possible.
• Reach out to encourage applications from community agencies whose programs address Shiawassee United Way’s identified focus areas.


Operations

Goal Statement ~ Provide efficient and cost-effective systems, policies and processes that enable the delivery of Shiawassee United Way’s mission-related work and ensure the highest levels of transparency and accountability to maintain public trust.

Objectives:
• Continue to meet all United Way of America membership requirements and strive to meet United Way of America Standards of Excellence.
• Explore collaborations that would lead to decreased administrative costs.
• Develop and implement investment policies.
• Enact fiscal controls to ensure long-term stability.
• Maintain an accurate database and investigate options for a more comprehensive system.
• Maintain technology that maximizes efficiency, accuracy and accessibility.

Community Leadership

Goal Statement ~ Engage and inspire communities to create a shared vision for the future and set goals for collective action to impact their needs.

Objectives:
• Continue to participate in collaborative efforts to address community issues.
• Organize Neighborhood Advisory Councils in collaboration with interested parties to get input and buy-in regarding issues affecting their community.
• Study Circles
• Create 211 Data base in cooperation with Health and Human Services Council.
• Perform and publicize human service referral function.


Resource Development

Goal Statement ~ Generate sufficient resources to adequately execute the community investment strategy.

Objectives:
• Establish a variety of giving options.
• Transition to a continuous fundraising model employing the United Way of America Standards of Excellence.
• Develop and implement a Major Gifts Program.
• Achieve total resource development of $500,000 by 2009.


Governance

Goal Statement ~ Employ the Shiawassee United Way Board Members to provide direction, marshal resources, and provide oversight of programs, finances, legal compliance and values.

Objectives:
• Board members should demonstrate support, commitment and participation in the work of Shiawassee United Way.
• Provide regular board development activities to increase board effectiveness.
• Ensure new board members are provided orientation and materials.
• Review strategic plan, bylaws, policies and procedures regularly to ensure proper organizational direction and values.
• Perform self-assessment to comply with United Way of America membership standards.
